The Mac House Co Monthly | March 2022

Hey Mac House Fam!

It has been almost a month since I announced that I was stepping back and taking a break from instagram and my podcast. And I can tell you that it was the best decision I made. I had so much on my plate and the demands of my family were high and my mental and physical health were suffering.

A month later, I already feel so refreshed and like I have more mental space. I feel so much more at ease and peaceful. I got so many supportive emails from a lot of you in my community and I am so grateful for all of you.

I am still working hard at my beauty studio here in Keller, Texas and the growth has been so fun! I love being there, love seeing clients and have created a schedule that feels like a good balance between family + work. (If you are in the DFW area, I would love it if you came in to see me!)

I wanted to send an update, check in and share a few things I’ve been reading and enjoying this past month. I hope you have an incredible April and make sure you are finding time to refuel yourself, rest and recover! You deserve it!

Changes to my slow morning routine:

I recently was listening to an episode on the podcast “I have ADHD”, ( Podcast Episode #127: The Warm Up Before Working (AKA “Scrolling Time”).One of the things she was talking about was how people with ADHD will sit down to work, not be able to focus, scroll online for an hour and THEN get all their work done in a short amount of time. I thought it was so bad that I scrolled so much. But instead, it has helped me realize that my brain is like a steam engine…I can’t just expect my brain to wake up and to accelerate like a Tesla. My brain is different. So adjusting my expectations and working with my brain rather against it has helped me so much.

Now, I start my mornings slowly, allowing time for a slower morning routine and giving my brain the opportunity to wake up and catch up knowing that when I get going, I will be super efficient.

So, I’ve added a few things into my slow morning routine:

  • Allowing time for a mindless/encouraging scroll while I drink my coffee

  • Following accounts online that motivate me + get me wanting to get up and get going

  • Reading more in depth articles to wake my brain up

  • Doing the NYT Spelling Bee + Crossword puzzles

Here are a few articles I’ve read and really enjoyed:

Books I’ve Loved this Month:

  • Out of the Cave: Stepping into the Light when Depression Darkens What You See by Chris Hodges, https://amzn.to/3IYqs6M

  • The Betrothed  (Fiction)

  • The Betrayed (Fiction)

I just found these two books + I am so excited to read through them!

Shows I’ve Watched:

  • Heal: A documentary film that takes us on a scientific and spiritual journey where we discover that by changing one's perceptions, beliefs, and emotions, the human body can heal itself from any dis-ease. https://www.amazon.com/Heal-Dr-Deepak-Chopra/dp/B08SVKHYKT

  • Bridgerton: Did you guys watch season 2? My husband and I just finished watching it and I am interested in hearing what you thought!

Changes to how you shop:

I have changed the way you shop retail items + courses. All retail items will now be on the studio’s website to shop. We are bulking up our retail section at the studio and felt it made sense to have all orders be fulfilled through one system. You can shop ALL my previous retail products, brushes and studio products here.

You can still shop programs + courses here.

Questions from the community:

Question from Jessica Morlan:

Hi! This question might seem silly, but is there a specific technique to getting the Laura Mercier setting powder onto the brush? I feel like I lose a lot of product, make a mess, and don’t get enough on my brush.

Thank you!

Jess

My Answer:

Hey Jess! YES, I would recommend using a damp beauty blender! This way you can dab it in the product and then directly on your face without wasting any product or making a mess with dropout! You can also spray setting spray on the beauty blender prior to dabbing it in the setting powder. Refer to The Confident Mom Method on how to use a beauty blender properly and how to properly dampen it!  - Beauty Blender Recommendation

Question from Amy Pfluger:

Hi Jaime, I would like to get some recommendations of deodorant that is good for a 8 years old boy to use. I had a hard time finding one that I feel comfortable to give my son to use since he is at such a young age. Thanks in advance!

My Answer:

Hey! Yes, you are wise to want to be careful with the type of deodorant your son uses! The key here is using a deodorant that is natural and not an antiperspirant. We WANT our body to sweat as that is how our body detoxes which is vital to our health.

8 years old is very young for the use of deodorant. At this age, he shouldn’t have a strong body odor, especially under his armpits. So does he just smell like a sweaty boy? If so, frequent showers will help! Typically, body odor on boys doesn't start until puberty, which is between 9-14. If he is going through puberty earlier than other kiddos and has a strong armpit odor, then yes, you can choose a more natural deodorant for him. Primally Pure has great options that are natural.

Question from Jessica Mace:

Best spot treatment? (Preferably clean)

My Answer:

Hey Jessica! I am going to recommend three different spot treatments as well as a couple face washes! All are clean options. Also, in The Confident Mom Method we have a few skincare masterclasses and lots of product recommendations!

#1. Blemish Drops

#2 SOS Spot Treatment

#3 Acne Patches

#1 Cleanser option

#2 Cleanser option

If your question is answerable in the course videos or PDF’s, I will not prioritize a response. Please don't DM me questions on Instagram or Facebook. Any questions need to be emailed or filled out on the submission form.
